Tokyo 4th trip ~~ 6-10 April 2015

I went to Tokyo this spring with Haima to chase Sakura ^.^

and we made promise that we will speak no English. hehehe.. we broke it a few times but still we manage to really really practice our nihongo skill 😀DSC07757

I met Haima in Narita airport as I went to Tokyo from Jakarta with ANA ( I hope Emirates will keep the agreement with this carrier otherwise T_T) then we had our dinner first in the foodcourt (2nd floor) in Terminal two . it’s halal restaurant. the name is ….

this time i stayed in Le monterey Ginza , it’s 15000 yen per night, divided two , so each of us paid 37500 yen.

my budget for this trip is AED 2600 (+290 dhs for the ticket CGK- NRT)  and it equals to 80000 yen 🙂

1st day :

Ueno koen – Asakusa – Shibuya (met tante Nita ) – Tokyo camii – Odaiba – hotel

2nd day :

8 april 2015

Raining and snowing !!!

we had onigiri as our breakfast from 7Eleven.

then we went to Tokyo Intl forum to take some pictures, Haima is admired the architecture. it’s the glass building.

after that we roam around in marunoichi area up to International Palace . then we went to Tokyo station to eat ramen .

It’s near yaesu north exit, behind the ticket counter opposite of daimaru.

then we went to akihabara – Ikebukuro to buy kitkat in kitkat boutique and then we went to Tokyo metropolitan to view Tokyo  from up.. after that we went to Ookayama campus of Tokyo Institute of Technology (to have campus tour with ka puspa) and then we ate tempura in a restaurant near mizunokuchi station , ka puspa and bang mol treat me and Haima.. 😀 😀

4th day : 10 April – Haima roam around by herself and i took rest at the hotel. I just couldnt stand up anymore…Felt really sick.. 😦 😦

this day we suppose to meet Ibu Dwi and have lunch in Pasona office but maybe because i feel not well already , we couldnt find the place T_T so we end up ate ramen in Tokyo station again, and then I went back to hotel, Mbak Indah pay me a visit to the hotel.

night, around 2000 i went to the airport to catch my flight back to Dubai..

and i went to work on 11 april at 12pm , but only able to work for two hours, I asked Mehdi to release me early, he  agree to release me but what he said is not nice in my ears : he asked me whether I’m dying or not coz he is shortage of staff.. and me like :S seriouslyyyy???

when i went to the doctor, my temperature is 39 degrees, i got 3 days sick leave (which means i am really sick ) and the doctor asked me to go to lung and heart specialists in aster Al Fahidi.. I haven’t go untill now..  anyway, in short I thank God that ive been able to reach Dubai safely, coz seriuosly i felt like I’m between heaven and hell when im on the plane.. O:)

Syafakillah ziwa…

meet the shaikha

7 march 2015

I went to Emirateslitfest , the event held in Intercontinental hotel, Festival City, one of the programm is regarding the International Woman’s Day which is celebrated every 8 of march.

the reason i went there, because I really need to get motivation to keep going and not giving up (I was talking about life, really! i think i’m in the state of midlife crisis now T_T) well.. one of the speaker is Sheikha Lubna Khalid Alqasimi.

i really love the event, i think i get some light and feel motivated again to continue mylife in Dubai..

we as a woman have to always be ourselves.  it is okay not to be like-able .

we have to keep ourselves hungry (keep dreaming and have an ambition!)

Never let anyone discourage you or tell you what to do .

If you believe you are (not worthy) of creating something, you won’t ever even try, will you ?

after the event , one goal in my mind : I want to greet Shaikha in person, tell her my name and take picture together !

which I did. *missionaccomplished!!* ~~~

middleeasttravelconference

soo.. last february 20, I went to this event called middle east food & travel blogger conference, located in Alserkal avenue, Al Quoz, and it’s part of the Dubai food festival programme..

been long time I haven’t roam around alquoz area (since i move out from al Khail accommodation myb less than 10 times i went there) i was a bit nostalgic that time, and glad that now the area has changed from really sandy industrial area to at least many small cafes and cultural venue (still sandy though)

move on- soo.. this Alserkal avenue looks like not really popular among the taxi drivers, I have to look and read the direction to him few times, when he realised aah.. it’s near the home centre warehouse.. X_X (shame on me. ive been four years in Dubai and still not driving and blind about the road! T_T )

they gave free food for the participants.. *nyumm*

DSC07669

well..

the event itself really gave me more insight about blogging and at the end how to be an influencer… which i don’t think i have that capacity yet.

despite of busy working, I’m not really productive as well:(

anyway,

humility in our business is a sign of grace and passion… confidence combined with competence is the winning formula

last…

it is important to always be willing to try, dare and push the limits. courage is essential

Emirati Wedding Experience.

19 january 2015. (not sure why it held on monday though)

My first Emirati wedding experience.

Thanks to Rana (for inviting me to her twin sister’ wedding)

As an expat, an invitation to one of these things is as common as hen’s teeth.. and I’ve always wanted to experience this thing (even if i have appointment for my chest surgery that day, i will make sure that i will still go ! 😀 )

on note – when i asked most of my emirati friend about what should i bring for the wedding gift, whether they accept cash or present, and if present what the usually, they give .. most of my friend told me either gold or perfume.. and me like errr… hmm… (X:X)

Actually, an Emirati wedding reception is just like any other reception, differences is that the couple has usually already been married for the last couple of months, either mostly, in Indonesia, I believe the reception/party will held the same day or the next day of the akad nikah..

another differences i notice is the very loud music and dancing . the hall is also separated between male and female. but seriously, Emirati wedding for me is all about loud music and dancing. Really!!

The place is in Al Mizhar Wedding hall, somewhere after Al qusais,,i think it was my first time too to roam around that area. I went with Nofy, as she was in Dubai for a couple of days. Rana told me to come at 2000 , as i and taxi driver roaming around trying to find the place, me reached the place at about 2115 ..

first things first, I was surprised there is no receptionist.. (wow.. everyone can just enter then.. what if in my country like this, i wonder who’s gonna be coming inside the hall.. hehe!)

let me describe the hall.. It wasn’t very big one (according to Emirati) . There were only 15 tables, each seating 10 . Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was white. The chairs were covered in white silk fabric with big bows tied into the back. Each table had a candlelit mini-chandelier with a large bouquet consisting of white hydrangeas, roses and peonies in the centre. When i entered the room , i think one of the bride’s family is spreading dirham and usd notes for the kids. (as far as my eyes caught the situation and the notes, it is maybe 10 dollars and the dirham is 100 (bcause seriously, the notes colour is red!!) OMG…(T_T )… the kids were so happy trying to catch as many as they can. whats in my mind straight away is “can i join it as well?”

Rana guiding me to our table, i was sitting with ahood, one of former colleague at the airport.

When i Reached the table, it already full with foods and i can see two boxes in front of me. one is big box and the other is small box.10931142_10152990105630792_8997185977919279821_n

10302222_10153059176989917_8389869380437010856_n

well.. i didn’t know that the food served in the table is not to be there until the party finished. (if only i know, i will eat much, and not little, slowly and was waiting till later) X_X

the server took all food from our table and change it with the cookies .. much cakes, cookies and pudding. and i was really glad that they served umm ali.. my favourite ❤ ❤ ❤

10349957_10152990106575792_159064066748168662_n

not long after that, they served us with tea and arabic coffee spiced with cardamom, with the strong and its unique smell..  it poured into beautiful Moroccan-style teacups. Tea, sweetened with condensed milk, (a local favourite) served in tiny, porcelain cups and saucers gilded with silver leaf. And another local traditional tea, the slightly bitter but still delicious za’atar tea poured into tiny crystal goblets. There was really no shortage of refreshments .

but.. The bride is not in the room yet.

I observed the other guests in the hall and found myself put to shame by the sophisticated confections of sartorial giants. Chanel, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Prada. Every single person that in the room looked better than movie stars. They looked amazing. And guess what? I couldn’t exactly blend in… LOL

around 9 pm i could see the bride is coming in.. the bride was the most beautiful.. i can feel my jaw dropped and i can’t even blink my eyes because she is just too much pretty. she was wearing a very sexy dress as well.. there is another differences in this one.. we are not allowed to take bride’s picture (only the family)

and by 10.30pm, the room which is a sea of jewel-coloured dresses. Emerald, sapphire, ruby.. A rainbow of couture is now not more than a veritable Mexican wave of black spread over the room from back to front. The ladies were all throwing their black abayas back on and covering their hair with their shelas.

and even the bride , she is wearing now a nice white gown and covered herself with some head cover (the head cover is just like a japanese bride costume, seriously!)

This whole situation mean only one thing – a man was about to enter the room … i can see the groom and his parents entered the room ..

“selamat menempuh hidup baru, i whispered.. “

** appereantly, the small box is tasbih and the big one is chocolate..very tasty and delicious chocolate.. ❤

I wish Allah, will let me and nofy experience our own wedding soon.. O:)

about malaysia.

I was inspired to write a post about Malaysia since I wrote about Dubai and posted it in my facebook. (there is a comment from lovely Sakiinah for me to write about Penang ) and my meet up with Alina and Salwa last month, two Malaysian in Dubai, makes me feel, let me do it now 😉

hmm..

well ,, let’s try to remember and sum it up..

I went first time to Malaysia in 2005 to study my bachelor’s degree in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which popular with the title University in the garden and ranked as number two in Malaysia. *wink*

It was my first time going outside of the country, I was just too excited.

It was also my first time to live far away from my parents. I still can remember how my dad cried his eyes out when he letting me off from the departure area (which makes my tear drops too ) and…. if you met my mom, you will know that she’s too cool to act like my dad even i know she feel sad too X_x

my University is in Penang, which is 45 minutes by plane from Kuala Lumpur.  That time, No direct flight yet from Jakarta to Penang and AirAsia still operates from KLIA 🙂

First time i step my foot in KLIA , i feel like wow! it’s a nice airport ! to go to the gates with the train is just amazing 😉

the comparison here so far only with Indonesia and the differences that i notice while I’m living there

  1. in Malaysia i don’t find a tukang parkir , someone that will help you to park your car and then you give him some money.. (i don’t know now )
  2. there is no ojek , a motorcycle that you can ride as a taxi.
  3. you pay the bus to the coin machine and then take your receipt ( i used to pay the bus fare to the kondektur 😀 )
  4. while that time few bus still without AC but most of the public bus is with AC ( from what i heard ,buses now only rapid bus, KL and Penang)
  5. if you want to fill up your fuel tank, you have to get out and walk to the cashier and then you put the pipe and fill it to your car/motorcycle by your own (oh c’mon, dont be lazy!)
  6. it was my first time to know and realize that motorcycle can going through highway.
  7. it  was just too many scooters 😀
  8. I was staying in Dormitory , to use the coin washing machine to wash my clothes and to refill my water through the coin machine is hajimete . 🙂
  9. going to Singapore and Thailand can be done overland . it’s just like going to another city. ~~~
  10. paying toll without queueing in the lane is amazed me .hehe
  11. there is sekolah kebangsaan Cina , i mean if in Indonesia, we have sekolah katolik, sekolah Islam, Malaysia they have this kind of school.
  12. bangsa there means race.
  13. and negeri means province not country .
  14. mm.. let’s talk about language barrier . While people say that Malay language and Indonesian is the same, I will tell you, it is not the same. at the first time, you will get confused and lost when u talk to them . it’s true . I don’t lie 😀 (especially when i first talk to Ed, with his kental logat utara X_x)
  15. duduk dekat mana ?  (???) in Indonesian: duduk is sit. dekat is near . mana is which/where ? so.. when i heard it first time i feel like.. hmmm…. hmmm… when literally it means where are you staying ?
  16. daripada mana ? daripada , in Indonesian, is like a comparison. let say ” lebih baik A daripada B , while in Malaysian somehow could means “where are you come from ?” .
  17. aku dan saya . I think most of Indonesian, including me, always use aku when referring to themselves, even when they talk to their parents. If in Indonesia, aku is already polite ,in Malaysia, you will get a selipar terbang on the face if you use aku to parents or someone older than you .
  18. seronok laa.. in Malay , it doesn’t mean you are doing something not right but it means it’s fun .
  19. senang je tuu. means that is easy. yes, senang in Malay means easy while in Indonesian, it means happy ^_^
  20. when you live there, under your consciousness you will catch the accent of malaysian English “it’s okay laaa”
  21. pusing campus . it doesnt mean your campus had a headache 😀 pusing in Malay means go/turn around.
  22. di dalam kereta means inside the car not inside the train .
  23. I get used to say “bas” instead of “bis” when referring to the “bus”
  24. nak makan apa? the questioner not calling you as her/his anak, but he/she asking you what do you want to eat ?  (nak in Malay language is mahu/want ) .

well,, after a while living there, I think I get used to the word pening to refer as a headache , bilik as kamar , credit to say pulsa and bestnyeee to say asikk banged! 😉

Life goes on. but somehow I miss Malaysia.. (esp Penang!)

I miss the delicious food. nasi lemak bakar burma road, nasi ayam madu especially from pelita, nasi ayam merah, ayam oyster , you get super duper tasty food with a good price.. nyumm..nyumm…

I miss watching cinema. I was a movie buff, now I rarely go to the cinema, Maybe I am too medit , kedekut and pelit but to pay AED 35 or AED 50 for a movie , i rather watch it on board when I’m flying with my cheap ticket (just wait another 4 months maximum to be available on Emirates ICE!)

I miss lepak after work . In Dubai , my life circulation will only be get up.work.eat.sleep.getup.work.eat.sleep. gooshh… I thought it only me but it happened to everyone here,,, Is it because of the work pressure that we feel so powerless when the work timing is over ?? I wonder…

I miss the friendliness of the people. period.

I miss paying the cheap rent . Seriously , rent in Dubai is as high as empire state building. thank God that my rent is not yet rise up . ( i don’t know next few months) but to pay AED 1500 not including electricity water internet and gas for a very small room without window (maid room) is just horrible ! not forget to mention shared with other 7 peoples in the house 😦 and to afford a comfortable big- fii window-room in a good location is out of my budget.

If you ever stay in Dubai, you will know how we struggle here just to make friends. good friends. maybe again , because of the pressure and everyone is just busy to cope up with their own Dubai life . (I’m lucky to know and have some angels with me , I thank God for them)

Last but not least, I would like to say thank you to everyone that reading it and thank you for all my friends that around during my stay in Malaysia, be it in Pulau Pinang, Cyberjaya or Kuala Lumpur . I seek forgiveness for all mistake and sharp words. Love you all ❤
